Hyderabad: All flyovers barring three will be closed, no traffic on Necklace Road for Shivaratri, Shab-e-Meraj

Hyderabad: Several major flyovers in Telangana’s capital city will remain closed on Saturday night and Sunday morning in view of Maha Shivaratri and Shab-e-Meraj (Jagne Ki Raat) celebrations. The city traffic police issued an advisory regarding the closure of flyovers and requested the public to avoid those roads and requested citizens to take note of this and use alternative roads for commuting.

The flyovers will be closed for all types of vehicles from 10 pm on Saturday night to Sunday morning. The Necklace Road stretch will also be closed for traffic.

However, there will be no restrictions on Greenlands flyover, PVNR Expressway and Langar Houz flyover.

Major flyovers in the city are the Shilpa Layout flyover, Gachibowli flyover, Biodiversity flyovers 1 and 2, Mindspace flyover, Road No 45 flyover, Durgam Cheruvu Cable bridge, Cyber Tower flyover, Forum –JNTU flyover, Khaithlapur flyover and Babu Jagjivan Ram flyover among others.

According to officials, the restrictions have been enforced to regulate traffic and to ensure road safety. In case of any emergency, city residents can contact the Hyderabad Traffic Police helpline – 9010203626 for travel assistance.

During Maha Shivaratri, Hyderabad usually sees a huge rush of devotees. Since morning on Saturday, Shiva temples across the city have been witnessing a heavy rush to offer various pujas.

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is running over 2400 special buses from various districts in the State and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh for devotees. Special buses are available for devotees from MGBS, JBS, Dilsukhnagar, IS Sadan, KPHB and BHEL in Hyderabad to Srisailam shrine.

A large number of Muslim devotees celebrate Shab-e-meraj, a night of special prayers, on Saturday. The Muslim devotees will stay awake the whole night amid recitations of the Quran. Special arrangements have been set up at Badshahi Ashoorkhana on High Court road for the Shab-e-meraj.
