A Look At What’s Often in The Bag

Swim Bag Treasures: A Look At What’s Often in The Bag

By Isabelle Robuck, Swimming World College Intern.

Almost all of us have our very own trusty swim bag that goes everywhere we do. With a unique variety of items and gadgets gathered by you, it seems very possible for us to practically live out of our swim bags. It has become one of our most prized possessions as we become extremely protective over it. After years of wear and tear, even massive rips and growing mold spots can’t convince us enough to get a replacement!

So, what makes our swim bags so near and dear to our hearts? It most likely comes from the unforgettable memories and ever-so-personalized touches that make up our sacred swim bags.

Without further ado, let’s take a look inside – what’s in the bag?

Endless Caps and Goggles.

Some broken and some not, there’s always an endless supply of various caps and goggles… You never know when you’re going to need a back-up!

Lotion and Various Moisturizers.

A swimmer’s best friend post practice. There’s nothing worse than the feeling of sand-paper dry skin, so quickly combating it with a rich lather of shea butter and coconut oil is an absolute must! Plus, scented lotion can quickly replace the lingering smell of chlorine.

Pain Medication.

Most swimmers have some sort of pain medication in their bags for various reasons. It’s pretty normal to get a headache after a hypoxic set. So, what do you do? Grab some Advil and get back in the pool. Muscles extra sore from weights yesterday? Advil. Casual shoulder pain? That’s right, Advil. Truth is, there isn’t a lot that pain meds can’t help with!

Sales boomed on the back of shoppers wanting to cut food bills amid record high inflation.

Chief executive Giles Hurley said: “Demand for Aldi’s never been higher as more realise they can make significant savings without compromising on quality.

“It’s more important than ever that we’re making it even easier for more people to shop with us — including by opening dozens of new stores.”

There are also new jobs at offices and distribution centres.

Aldi already has more than 990 shops and employs around 40,000. Its sales are growing four times faster than Tesco’s, rising 27 per cent last month compared to the previous year. Its hiring spree contrasts with rivals who have cut thousands of jobs to reduce costs.

Aldi can sell cheaper food than other chains because it has a lower cost base. It does not provide online or convenience outlets and has smaller stores

The Emerald Necklace Conservancy honored the Olmsted Now Committee of Neighborhoods with the Olmsted Award of Excellence on February 1 at the Curley House in Jamaica Plain.

The Olmsted Now Committee of Neighborhoods was formed to rectify a structural inequality in park decision-making in Greater Boston, on the occasion of Frederick Law Olmsted’s Bicentennial in 2022. Comprised of intergenerational leaders working across a wide array of disciplines in the Roxbury, Mattapan, Grove Hall and Dorchester neighborhoods, the Committee re-centers programming decisions in the communities that are impacted the most by them and distributed over $200,000 in grants to fund community-generated bicentennial programs focused on parks equity and spatial justice.

The Olmsted Now Committee of Neighborhoods consists of Andrew Sharpe, Authentic Caribbean Foundation; Anita Morson-Matra, Baldwin in the Park; Ambar Johnson, Livable Streets Alliance; artist Barrington Edwards; Biplaw Rai, Comfort Kitchen; Jay Lee, Franklin Park Coalition/City of Boston; John Linehan, Franklin Park Zoo/Greater Grove Hall Main Streets; Karenlyn Bunch, Greater Grove Hall Main Streets; artist Karen Young; Nakia Hill, 826 Boston/City of Boston; Paul Willis, 826 Boston; Pat Spence, Urban Farming Institute; Shavel’le Olivier, Mattapan Food & Fitness; and Kay Savage, Mattapan Food & Fitness.

“Last year was a moment for all of us to collectively reimagine how parks and public space could meet Olmsted’s legacy ideals NOW: how greenspace could be truly open and accessible to all, where all feel they can fully belong, express and be. Given our mission to steward not just these parks but Olmsted’s ideas of healing and connection, especially coming out of a pandemic,

The Hair Brush Jennifer Aniston Used to Style Her Own Hair Is on Sale for Just $11

It has the stamp of approval from over 13,000 five-star shoppers, too.

When she shared an Instagram video styling her own hair in 2021, I picked apart the products. Naturally, the video featured Aniston’s brand, Lolavie, but it also displayed the very affordable bright teal Wet Brush Pro Flex.

Jennifer Aniston’s beauty routine is a mixture of high- and low-priced products — which is great, because spending upwards of $200 on a facial toning device can set you back. The Wet Brush Pro Flex is affordable even at its full price of $15, but even more so now that it’s 30 percent off at Skinstore.

Sure, the price tag is enough to initially draw us in, but according to the 13,000-plus five-star ratings and reviews across retailers like Ulta and Amazon, it earns its keep, too. The zigzag style of the bristles is not merely for aesthetics — Wet Brush says the vents are to help speed up dry time which reviewers say it in fact does. The concave shape is also utilitarian; it gives the Wet Brush flexibility, which allows it to bend with the curves of your head.

Shoppers have found a couple of additional, unlisted benefits. The first is that it pulls less on strands and the scalp, thereby causing less hair loss and shedding. The other punch this $11 brush packs is that it’s dispersed long

Who wore it better? Tiwa Savage and Lizzo stun in matching gold outfits

Today, we have two artiste, Nigeria’s Tiwa Savage and American singer and rapper, Lizzo rocking a gold outfit with ruffles by designer, Robert Twun. Robert’s use of ruffles and structure has made him the go-to designer for the award season.

She wore hers to the 2022 British Fashion Awards.

Tiwa was perfectly golden with the dress with a leotunderneatheath, the frills formed some sort of cape that was really exquisite when photographed. Plus, I loved the little gold purse. There was absolutely nothing wrong with how she styled it; it’s a solid 10/10.

Lizzo wore hers to the Brit Music Award. She didn’t wear hers with a leotard as Tiwa did; we wonder why. Plus, we weren’t such big fans of her hairstyling; we loved the earrings though.

We would pick Tiwa’s styling over Lizzo’s though they both look great. What do you think?

The 17 Best Beach Bags for 2023

It’s officially time for 2023 vacation planning. If your plans include some leisure by the water, you’ll want to find the ideal beach bag for your adventure. Whether you’re at the beach, by the pool or on a boat, the right bag can carry all of your water essentials.

When shopping for a beach bag, give thought to the size, material and style (think: a zip-top or open-top beach tote bag), as well as how you want to carry it. For a resort stay, you may consider a fashionable option that holds a sun hat and a beach read. Elsewhere, you might want a great mesh bag so the sand can flow right out.

If you’re going to be tossing items in and out frequently, an open-top tote will work well, whereas a beach backpack is an ideal hands-free choice. If you’ll be traveling, a lightweight style that can be easily packed or used as your personal carry-on item may be just right.

The Top Beach Bags for 2023

To help you narrow down your options, U.S. News has selected the best beach bags in a variety of categories based on consumer reviews.

Fashion sales gain double-digit growth

Fashion sales have risen by 14.4% in January 2022 across Australia compared to the same time last year, according to the latest Mastercard SpendingPulse, which measures in-store and online retail sales across all forms of payment.

Overall retail sales were up by 6.3%, with the largest increase seen in the lodging sector of 15.9%.

Restaurants (up 8.8%), jewellery (up 8.4%) and grocery (up 6.3%) also recorded solid growth

Electronics (down 3.2%) and home furnishings (up 0.9%) slowed after strong growth during the pandemic and have been the first categories to soften in retail spending.

Australian Retailers Association CEO Paul Zahra said the results – whilst positive overall – also reflect the growing impact of price inflation in some categories (grocery) and a slowing down of high spending in some covid impacted categories (home) in previous years.

“These are solid results in a challenging economic environment where we are seeing consumers becoming more value orientated, taking advantage of the Boxing Day sales,” Zahra said.

“We also saw many Australians celebrating their freedom over the holidays ahead of the cost-of-living pressures biting.”

Zahra said it’s clear the current macroeconomic environment is becoming a challenge for businesses, particularly smaller business, as they navigate rising operating costs in fuel, energy, labour, supply chains, rent and increasing debts, with further interest rate hikes on the agenda ahead.

“Traders have had a greater capacity to absorb these rate increases while spending has remained robust,” Zahra said. “But when spending slows – it will take a hefty toll on retailers, particularly small-scale mum-and-dad businesses.”

Zahra reiterated that the retail industry is a barometer of the wider Australian economy.

“As a $400 billion sector that employs one in ten Australians, retail is vital in holding the economy together.”

Robber ripped necklace from Bedford woman, 96, after she made him a cup of tea

A man who robbed a 96-year-old woman in her own home after she had made him a cup of tea has been jailed for four years.

Sabir Makein, 37, snatched the victim’s gold necklace from her neck after forcing his way into her flat in Bedford.

The court heard that just minutes before the elderly victim had taken pity on Makein after seeing him outside her flat on a cold day last September.

She made him a cup of tea and passed it to him out of the window.

But shortly after finishing the drink, Makein tried to force his way in through the front door.

The elderly victim managed to block his way with her mobility trolley, but Makein was able to rip the necklace from her before running away.

Police said fortunately the woman’s wedding ring, which was hanging from the necklace, fell to the floor and was not taken.

Det Con Andy Boston, who led the investigation, said: “This was a despicable offence in which a woman was targeted because of her vulnerabilities.

“The victim believed that she was doing a good deed by offering Makein a cup of tea on a cold morning, which makes the crime even more reprehensible.

“Makein subjected his victim to a terrifying ordeal within her home, a place where we should all feel safe.”

Detectives from Bedfordshire Police’s specialist burglary team, Operation Maze, were able to trace Makein by piecing together CCTV footage that showed his movements leading up to and following the incident.

He was seen using an ATM machine immediately after the crime and detectives were able to trace the bank card used back to him.

Makein pleaded guilty to robbery at Luton Crown Court in November and was jailed last week.

With her alluring red outfit, Katrina Kaif made the most of the IIFA Rocks event. The glittering dress had padded shoulders, a low-cut V-neck, a front slit that reached to the knee, and elaborate embroidery all around. The dramatic exposed back of Kaif’s dress was an intriguing feature. Given the size of the event and the actor’s choice of colour, the outfit remained glitzy and stood out in the throng. While wearing the embroidered dress, Kaif opted to wear plain hoop earrings instead of any major jewelry. Her hair stylist Amit Thakur gave her hair a smooth blow-dry while she produced a dewy, fresh base, soft smoky eyes, and nude glossy lips.
